You have the party on the calendar, so now it is time to get to work! Hostess coaching is an essential part of having a successful party. Here are some tips and tricks to help you help your hostesses!

STEP 1: “First Date” - Get to know your hostess

After booking, contact your hostess immediately (that night/next morning) to confirm details of her party. Then, just like a first date, get to know her a little bit! Ask about her kids/job/book preferences/etc. - people like to talk about themselves, and this helps you develop a relationship and allows the hostess to trust you, which will be helpful in coaching her. As you plan her party, continue building this relationship in your daily follow ups!

STEP 2:: Emphasize the FUN!

The most important reason to coach your hosts is to keep them excited and engaged, as well as informed so they know what to expect.  The more excited they are, the more their guests will be excited and the better the attendance will be.

Get your host excited by talking about the products, remember their love of books was enough to book a party in the first place! Give the host ideas about what to say to their friends to help ensure the excitement builds: “This is going to be so much fun, you’re going to love it!” You won’t believe the quality of these books, I know your kids will fall in love with them right away!”

Encourage them to start their wish list so they know what they are working for. If their kids are old enough, encourage the hostess to let her kids participate in the wish list process.

STEP 3: Continued Communication

Don’t lose the momentum of your first date by leaving her hanging for days! If the party isn’t for a couple weeks, let her know when you’ll get started with planning. If it is within a week or two, send a “check-in” message everyday - guide your hostess by offering “daily tasks,” but end with a question to encourage a back and forth conversation (not just sending a list of directions). STEP 4: Be Direct

Now that you’ve built a relationship with your hostess, it will be that much easier to guide her through the hosting process! Don’t be afraid to be upfront and direct in telling her what she needs to do (or not do) to have a successful party.  Check out the video and share one thing you might do differently to be more direct with your hostesses.

STEP 5:  Offer the Opportunity

Many of us probably started out as hostesses, so offering the opportunity to your hostesses is a no-brainer! They can always say “no thanks,” but you need to ALLOW them to make that choice - don’t make it for them by not even asking. Imagine if your sponsor had never asked you…

If they do say “no” just say something like: “Sounds good, I love it so much, I just wanted to make sure I offered you the opportunity too!”

If they say anything besides “no” - ask what interests them about the business and go from there. Depending on the hostess you can: message her the kit flyer, offer to set up a time to chat on the phone about what interests her, email a .pdf of the current recruiting packet, or invite her to the peek-inside event.

STEP 6: Post-Party Follow Up

Retaining your host & customer base is much easier than finding new hosts & new customers, so following up with your hostess is VERY important. Get her hostess order in quickly, get her next party on the calendar (or ask when you can contact her again & write it on your calendar), and ask if she has any referrals. Then, follow up when she gets her books to be sure she is happy with them! What are some follow up steps you already take with your hostesses?

BEST TIPS:

• PACKET - Send her a hostess packet with a check list, one large catalog, invitations and some order forms. Also include a THANK YOU letter for hosting a party!
• USE THE PHONE - Coach the hostess by phone! Having that personal connection goes a long way!
• MAKE A PLAN - Set a goal with your hostess. How much in free books would she like to earn? Having them focused on a goal helps them feel involved in their own success!
• PROVIDE TOOLS - Keep her involved leading up to the party by giving her daily tips and small tasks to do - checklists on who to invite and how, follow-up calls, outside orders and words to use.
