Make 2018 Your Year!

I love a New Year! Setting goals, making resolutions and the little break in business between Christmas and January to reset. I get excited all over again about the potential and possibilities of UBAM as I reflect on the past year's successes as well as the things that didn't go as planned.

If you aren't already a goal fanatic like me, here are some reasons why it is important:

Goals help you…

  1. Clarify what you want

  2. Motivate you to take action

  3. Provide a filter for other opportunities

  4. Help you overcome resistance

  5. See and celebrate progress

Michael Hyatt

Studies show us that those of us who write down our goals

are more likely to achieve them and to be successful!

For example:

Harvard Study of business school students.

84% had no goals

13% didn’t have them written down

3% who had written clear goals earned 10 times as much as the other 97%

I have collected a bunch of resources to help you get your year off to a great start. You DO NOT have to do them all, that would be super time consuming and there will be some overlap. You do want to find one or two that help you figure out what your goals are for the year AND even more importantly help you map out how to get there!

Let's start with my FAVORITE from the book, The One Thing. Goal Setting to the Now!

This form is super simple and asks what your ultimate long term goal is, what do you need to do in 5 years to get there, 1 year, 1 month, and today. You can print this out for each area or big goal in your life- ie. finances, family, personal development, health etc.

On the opposite end, Misty Kearn's Best Life Planner is SUPER in-depth. I did complete about 80% of it last year and found it really helpful but it is A LOT. Here are the pages I would highly recommend:

  • The mindset section in the beginning

  • Rate your business so you know what areas you need to focus on most- p. 17/18. After this you can decide which areas you want to go into further in her planning worksheets.

  • Business Goals- p. 21

  • Focus for the year- p. 22

  • Planning Pages- p.42-44

  • Theme Days- 58 (at this point there are no longer page numbers at the bottom so page is PDF page #). By the way, I LOVE theme days and find the super helpful in knowing what to do each day and I get more done because I am not jumping from task to task.

  • Marketing Plan for the year- 65

  • There are other planning calendars that are helpful as well.

You can also register for her Planathon Training and get access to videos and other resources for free.

Sarah Stout, UBAM Director has provided a great list of daily, weekly and monthly tasks to keep you organized. These are great to do as you are figuring out your theme days. Consultant List and Leader List.

Tina Beal, gave an amazing training over the summer on Goal Setting. Here's a video:

Also, a worksheet to go with her training.

Katie Hewitt, UBAM Director has created a worksheet to help you figure out your One Word of the Year.

Having a word of the year is also very powerful. In fact, we will be painting our words at the retreat. You don't want to miss that!!

Melody Stroud, another UBAM Director recently did a training (can be found on the FAM FB page) on Goals Gone Wild and talked about how knowing that accomplishing goals will be HARD, actually helps you be more successful in achieving them. Here is a sheet to use that will help you identify your obstacles and potential challenges so you can be realistic about your goals!

Last but not least, here is a fun, sparkly sheet to fill out and keep handy created by a very talented UBAM leader, Rachael.

May all your dreams come true.... with a little goal setting, planning, hard work, and GRIT!
